New single “Back in the Sun” from the upcoming release, “Current” out November 3, 2023 on Kill Rock Stars Nashville
South Carolina songwriter-poet Danielle Howle is releasing Back in the Sun, the second single from Current, her debut album for Kill Rock Stars Nashville out November 3. Known for captivating audiences with her stunning vocal ability, contagious energy, and seasoned songwriting skills, Howle’s music ranges from country-swamp-blues to Americana with country, southern rock and folk influences. Over the years, she’s been compared to Patsy Cline, Nina Simone, and writer Flannery O’Connor.
Howle shares: “Back in the Sun tells a story of great loss from start to finish, with a solid intention of facing down difficult situations. I left it open, story and lyric wise. Back in the sun, to me, is that empty place I return to after the ravages of loss. This emotionally neutral space can hold potential and rest from all stressful things. It’s kind of like a waiting room to collect energy so life can move toward some normalcy again. It’s a place to learn about and accept what is important, and also rebel against unwanted experiences. The sun itself can heal and it can hurt. Finding the warmth and freedom to heal is an essential life skill and a gift.” Back in the Sun captures Howle’s ability to share simple truths by tapping into a universal experience shared by her listeners. Disarmingly guileless, her lyrics comes from a place of self-awareness as she brings us along on her perpetual journey of self-discovery. She balances her powerful vocal style with conversational lyrics, sharing her honest experience of life.
Howle has shared stages with myriad legendary acts including Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Sam Bush, The Avett Brothers, Fugazi, and the late Elliott Smith. She has a longstanding friendship with Indigo Girls and often opens for them in the Southeast. The broad scape of her artistic supporters speaks to her ability to entertain and engage a crowd.
